About Me

Hi, I'm Jess Marriner,

I chose to retrain as a psychotherapist following a career in adult mental health social work, which spanned 15 years, and through which I realised the part I loved most was the emotional support I could offer those going through tricky life events.

I personally spent years not knowing how to balance the ongoing chaos of life, desperately seeking moments of peace and calm amid the curveballs that life inevitably throws at us.

Through a combination of my own therapy, re-training as a psychotherapist and a whole lot of patience, compassion towards myself and practice, I’ve learnt that it is possible to reclaim those moments of calm.

I’d love to help you learn how to stop chasing certainty, spend less time in your head and start living life again.

My approach is warm, compassionate, and non judgmental, choosing to focus on ‘what’s happened to you?’ as opposed to ‘what’s wrong with you?’.

I have worked in mental health for over 20 years, holding a post graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as well as remaining a registered social worker, and have worked for NHS talking therapy services since 2021, supporting 100’s of people with their mental health. I continue to work for the NHS alongside my private practice based in Bristol.

I am fully accredited with the BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists) and remain registered with Social Work England, adhering to their professional code of conduct.

I undertake regular supervision with a BABCP accredited supervisor and engage in regular CPD and training to ensure I am delivering up to date best practice therapy.

Let’s Talk

I offer a free, no obligation, 20 minute consultation via telephone or video to briefly explore the difficulties you are seeing support with and for you to help decide if you’d like to work with me.

If I believe an alternative approach or service may be more suitable for you then I will make recommendations of alternative support.

Yep, that’s right. I’m going to need you not to trust your gut.

We all overthink sometimes. Replaying a conversation, second-guessing a decision, going over something again and again in your mind. That’s part and parcel of being a human.

If you’ve ever been told to just stop thinking about it, I suspect it left you feeling one of two ways:
